MBBS in Romania 2026/27: Which University Has the Lowest Tuition Fee?

MBBS in Romania fees
2026/27 fee guide for non-EU students

Ask ten agents for the cheapest medical university in Romania and you will hear ten different answers. The honest answer depends on whether you compare the first invoice or the full six-year bill.

Open Facebook tonight and you will see it again: a bold poster, a tiny number, a different university each time. One student pays €8,000 in Year I and feels smart. Another pays €7,000 and saves €6,000 by graduation. Same country, same degree, very different bills.

That is the trap when you study MBBS in Romania: the smallest number on the poster is rarely the cheapest option. In this guide you will see the real 2026/27 fees for non-EU students, the six-year totals, and the Pakistan registration checks that decide whether a cheap degree is worth having at all. Romania’s six-year English programme awards a Doctor of Medicine (MD), the degree Pakistani families search for as MBBS. The fee data comes from university documents compiled and rechecked in late September 2026.

Non-EU tuition for English-taught Medicine, 2026/27 unless marked. Estimates multiply the yearly fee by six. Extra costs are not included.

Look at the gap. Between Sibiu or Galați and Carol Davila the six-year difference is about €18,000, and Titu Maiorescu sits roughly €57,000 above them. That is the price of a house in Lahore’s outer suburbs, decided by one university choice. Start with the top four rows, then compare them on more than price in our guide to the Best Romanian Universities for Medicine.

TIP01
Get the fee schedule in writing

Ask for the year-by-year fee table for your intake. Oradea’s published fee is €8,100 a year, so ask in writing whether it changes in later years.

Is Romania Good for Studying?

Short answer: yes, and for many Pakistani families it is one of the smartest value picks in medical education. Romania is an EU member state, so you study inside the European Union, and several public and private universities teach Medicine in English. Daily life is gentle on the wallet too: the official Study in Romania estimate is about €600 a month, university dormitories run from €60 to €85, and most young Romanians speak English, according to the same portal.

Now the fine print, because a good guide shows both halves. Once you reach the clinical years, patients speak Romanian, so the language becomes part of the degree. Every university runs its own admission process and deadlines, recognition depends on the exact degree and where you plan to practise, and Pakistani graduates face extra registration steps at home. None of this is a deal-breaker. It simply rewards the students who plan early.

Our verdict: Romania is good for students who budget all six years, choose a recognised university and start Romanian early.

Is Romania Safe to Study? The 3 Kinds of Safety Pakistani MBBS Students Should Check

Parents usually ask this before they ask about fees. When a family plans MBBS in Romania from Pakistan, “safe” really means three different things.

1Personal safetyRomania is an EU member state and is generally regarded as a safe country for international students. As anywhere, petty theft can happen in busy city areas, so secure your valuables. Dormitories cost €60 to €85 a month, which makes university housing a practical first choice.
2Money safetyA common risk is financial, not physical. Pay only through the university’s official channels, keep every receipt and get every fee promise in writing.
3Degree safetyA safe city is little use if the degree cannot be registered at home. Check the university’s ECFMG status and the latest PM&DC notices before you pay.

In an emergency in Romania, dial 112, the EU-wide emergency number. Save it, your embassy’s contact and your university’s international office in your phone before you fly.

Can I Study Medicine in Romania in English?

Yes. English-taught Medicine is listed at Carol Davila, Titu Maiorescu, Craiova, Iași, Oradea, Târgu Mureș, Victor Babeș, Vasile Goldșiș, Cluj-Napoca, Ovidius, Sibiu and Galați. The programme runs six years, but the door you enter through changes from one university to the next.

TIP02
Learn Romanian from day one

You can apply in English, but the clinical years need Romanian at the bedside. Students who start early are not scrambling later.

You do not need Romanian to apply, but you will need it at the bedside. Serious applicants start learning it in Year I. If you are applying from Lahore, see how the process works for MBBS in Romania from Pakistan.

Big pictureIs Romania a Good Option for Pakistani Students?

Weigh the pros and cons before you shortlist universities.

The Pakistan Checks That Matter More Than the Fee

A low fee means nothing if your MBBS in Romania cannot be registered at home. These are the PM&DC points reported from its 2026 notices. The rules have changed more than once this year, so confirm each one on pmdc.pk before you pay any university. Think of what follows as five checkpoints on one road: miss one, and the cheap fee stops being cheap.

TIP03
Verify the university, not the agent

Copy the university’s exact name and check its ECFMG status yourself. “PMDC approved” should never be a verbal promise from anyone.

Start with your marks. The 14 May 2026 notice asks for at least 60 per cent in FSc Pre-Medical or an equivalent, so check your result before you shortlist anything. Then register early: online registration at srf.pmdc.pk is described as mandatory to become eligible for provisional registration and the exam later, which makes it a step to finish before you fly, not after you land.

Next comes the checkpoint that decides everything: recognition. PM&DC’s 31 July 2026 notice says only graduates of ECFMG-recognised institutions can sit the National Registration Examination (NRE), so check the exact university name, not just the city or an agent’s promise. The NRE itself has two steps, and you need both for full registration in Pakistan, so keep it in mind when you plan your final years.

Finally, the rule that moved most recently. A PM&DC notice dated 5 October 2026, as reported by Pakistani media, removed the MDCAT pass rule for foreign admission. Older notices asking for 50 per cent are still online, which is exactly why you should verify on the day you apply instead of trusting a screenshot.

Costs Beyond Tuition

Tuition is the headline. Living costs are the plot twist: over six years they can rival what you pay the university. These are the figures we could verify.

TIP04
Pay only through official channels

Confirm payment details with the university’s admissions office, keep every receipt, and ask what is refundable if a visa is refused.

Also budget for document translation, legalisation, courier fees, residence paperwork, health insurance, flights and first-month setup. Non-EU students normally need a long-stay study visa, with proof of acceptance, tuition payment, health insurance and financial means.

Quick FAQs: Tap to Reveal

1Which medical university in Romania has the lowest tuition fee?

On the 2026/27 fee documents reviewed, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu and Dunărea de Jos University of Galați have the lowest yearly fee for non-EU students at €7,000, which is about €42,000 over six years if the fee stays flat. Ovidius University of Constanța is next at €8,000 a year. Confirm the fee with the university before paying.

2Is Romania good for studying?

Yes, for students who choose carefully. Romania is an EU member state with English-taught medical programmes and low living costs by its own official estimate. The trade-offs are Romanian for clinical work and the extra checks Pakistani graduates face before registering at home.

3Can I study medicine in Romania in English?

Yes. Many public and private universities list English-taught Medicine. You will still need to develop Romanian for patient contact during clinical training.

4Do I need MDCAT to study medicine in Romania?

Romanian universities admit through their own interview, file or exam process. For Pakistani registration, PM&DC’s notices changed during 2026, and a notice dated 5 October 2026 was reported to remove the MDCAT pass rule for foreign admission. FSc marks and online registration still apply, so check pmdc.pk when you apply.

5Can I practise in Pakistan after studying in Romania?

Pakistani graduates of foreign medical colleges must pass PM&DC’s two-step National Registration Examination, and only graduates of ECFMG-recognised institutions can sit it, according to its 31 July 2026 notice.

6Do fees stay the same for all six years?

Not necessarily. Universities set fees for each academic year, and some publish different amounts by study year. Ask for the written schedule for your intake.

7What is the real total budget for MBBS in Romania?

A rough illustration: Sibiu’s €42,000 tuition plus about €43,200 living (€600 × 72 months) is about €85,200. Ovidius comes to about €91,200 and Oradea to about €91,800. Flights, visa costs, translation and insurance are extra, so keep a buffer.

8Is the cheapest university always the best choice?

No. Compare the full six-year cost, admission style, ECFMG status and PM&DC rules first. A saving of a few thousand euros disappears if the degree cannot be registered at home.

9What do I need for a Romanian study visa?

Non-EU students normally need a long-stay study visa, with proof of acceptance, tuition payment, health insurance and financial means. Requirements can change, so confirm them with the embassy and your university.

Final Thoughts

The lowest fee is a smart place to start and a poor place to stop. Count the full six years, check the university’s ECFMG status, and confirm the PM&DC rules on the day you apply. Do that, and the saving becomes real instead of a number on a poster.
