Bucharest University of Economic Studies: Study in Romania, Fees & Admission

study in romania

Most students compare business schools in Europe by reputation first and quietly hope the fee works out later. At the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, you get to flip that order: the published yearly tuition for a non-EU bachelor’s student is €3,500, a number low enough that it’s worth checking what you actually get for it before you look anywhere else.

But a low fee only matters if you can get through the door: the right documents, attested and apostilled, submitted on time, followed by a visa file that holds up at the embassy. Miss a step and the cheap seat turns into a lost year.

This guide covers fees, English-taught programmes, deadlines, documents, English tests, rankings, housing, work rights and the visa — every figure from ASE’s own admission pages unless stated otherwise. If you plan to study in Romania, keep this page open beside your documents folder.

Is the Bucharest University of Economic Studies Good for Pakistani Students?

The Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE), known in Romanian as Academia de Studii Economice din București, is a public university in the Romanian capital with a long record in economics, business and public administration. It is separate from the University of Bucharest, also a public university in the city. It teaches bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral and MBA programmes, and international students can study in English, French or German.

In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, ASE rose in both of its flagship fields, and reports it remains Romania’s national leader in Economics and Econometrics.

351–400QS 2025, Economics and Econometrics, up from 401–450
501–550QS 2025, Business and Management, up from 601–620
No. 1In Romania for Economics and Econometrics, as reported by ASE from QS

In short: ASE is a solid, recognised economics university with improving rankings, not a top-100 global business school. Its real strengths for Pakistani students are an affordable published fee, a capital-city location and English-taught programmes. We could not find an official acceptance rate, so treat any percentage quoted elsewhere as unverified.

Bucharest University of Economic Studies Fees for International Students (2026/27)

ASE’s Academic Senate sets tuition every year, so figures can change. Here are the 2026-2027 rates for non-EU applicants.

LevelTuition per yearRegistration feeFirst-year total

Master’s (English)€4,500€450€4,950

Tuition alone runs to about €10,500 across a three-year bachelor’s and €9,000 across a two-year master’s. ASE doesn’t say whether the registration fee is one-time or yearly, so confirm before budgeting. Third-party listing sites often show outdated or EU-mixed figures — ASE’s own 2026-2027 page is the number to trust.

Pro tip 1

Email internationaladmission@ase.ro and ask two things in writing: is the registration fee one-time or yearly, and what is the payment deadline? A written answer protects you from surprises after you transfer money.

How to Apply to ASE Bucharest from Pakistan

If you want to study in Romania from Pakistan, ASE has moved its 2026-2027 process fully online, through its international admission platform. Here’s the route.

  1. Check eligibility

Bachelor’s applicants must apply within three years of passing the baccalaureate-equivalent exam, with an average of at least 6 for English-taught programmes. Master’s rules are listed on ASE’s separate master’s page.

  2. Prepare your documents

Get your FSc/HSSC certificate and marksheets verified by your Board, attested by IBCC, then apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Pakistan joined the Apostille Convention in 2023.

  3. Upload your file

Submit everything on ASE’s online platform within the published window.

  4. Get your Letter of Acceptance

ASE checks your file and the Ministry of Education issues the letter. ASE says this step can take up to 30 days.

  5. Apply for your visa

Apply at the Romanian Embassy once you hold the letter. The visa procedure can also take up to 30 days, so apply as early as you can.

  6. Register in Romania

Register in person at ASE with your original documents and your visa-stamped passport.

Documents cause more delays than anything else, so here is what ASE asks for in the application file.

DocumentWhat ASE requires
Application formCurrent-year ASE form with photo
Diploma and transcriptsBoard-verified, IBCC-attested and apostilled by MOFA

Birth certificateCopy of your birth certificate
Medical certificateStating you are fit for university studies
Passport copyClear copy of the identity page

Source: ASE international admission pages, checked on 10 October 2026. At registration in Romania, bring the originals, two 3/4 photos and your visa-stamped passport. Confirm the exact format of each document with internationaladmission@ase.ro before you upload.

Where do you get your documents checked in Pakistan? Your FSc/HSSC documents go through three official stops, in this order:

1. Board verification2. IBCC attestation3. MOFA apostille

First, your Board verifies the certificate and marksheets. Next, the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) attests them; it also asks for your SSC (Matric) certificate when attesting the HSSC certificate. Finally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) places the apostille. If you studied A-Levels or another foreign system, you also need an IBCC equivalence certificate. Fees and timelines change, so check the IBCC and MOFA Pakistan websites before you start (checked on 10 October 2026).

Pro tip 2

Make a single checklist folder, one document per file, named clearly. Before you upload, compare every name, date and grade across all your papers so nothing contradicts anything else.

Does ASE Bucharest Require IELTS? Which English Tests Are Accepted?

Short answer: no, IELTS is not compulsory. ASE accepts proof of English in more than one way, and an English-medium school record can replace a test altogether.

Four years of study in English. If you can prove, with documents, at least four years of academic study in English, you do not need a language certificate.

Official-language exemption. ASE exempts applicants from states whose official language is the study language. English is one of Pakistan’s official languages, but ASE does not say whether it counts Pakistani applicants, so ask in writing before relying on this.

An accepted certificate. These are the English certificates and minimum scores on ASE’s Faculty of Business Administration (FABIZ) admission page for the English-taught bachelor’s programme.

Cambridge First Certificate (FCE)Accepted (ASE’s regulation sets a minimum score of 160)
Cambridge CAE or CPEAccepted

Source and date: FABIZ admission page (en.fabiz.ase.ro/admission), which shows the 2026-2027 admission schedule. The page does not show its own publication date. Scores verified on 10 October 2026. ASE’s bachelor’s admission regulation for 2026-2027 (Annex 10, approved 17 December 2025 and amended on 25 March and 5 June 2026) lists lower minimums for IELTS (5.5) and TOEFL (46), so two ASE sources differ. Plan for the higher scores and ask ASE in writing which applies to your programme.

Which scores should you aim for? Aim for IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 87. ASE’s doctoral admission documents for 2025-2026 use the same two figures, and a programme page can set its own rules, so always follow the page of the exact programme you choose.

Rules to know: the cheat sheet.

  • Certificate levelB2 or higher
  • Skills coveredAll of them
  • ValidityValid when you apply
  • BULATSRetired, skip itCambridge replaced it with Linguaskill
  • Duolingo or PTEAsk ASE firstNot on the list

Partial-skill certificates are rejected. Any other certificate needs prior approval from ASE’s Department of Modern Languages and Business Communication. And if you studied at an accredited English-medium high school, FABIZ says you may be exempt from the test altogether.

No certificate? ASE’s non-EU regulation mentions a language test after arrival in Romania for applicants without a recognised certificate, with admission conditional until they pass. Do not rely on this: it is not guaranteed for every intake. Ask internationaladmission@ase.ro whether it is open to you before you decide to skip a test.

Student Accommodation and Cost of Living in Bucharest

ASE has 12 residence halls with 4,300+ places, in rooms of two to four. Its housing page, last updated in 2021, listed campus rooms at 200–300 lei a month — confirm the current price.

The catch: ASE guarantees housing only for scholarship and exchange students. Everyone else can request a place through the international department, but it’s not promised, and the university doesn’t arrange private accommodation.

  • Campus room, shared, per month200–300 leiASE page, updated 2021
  • Private one-room apartment, per month€200–400Utilities not included
  • Private two-room apartment, per month€300–500Utilities not included

Rent figures are from ASE’s own housing page. Add food, transport, internet and health insurance to build your monthly budget.

Can Pakistani Students Work While Studying in Romania?

Yes, with limits. Students holding a valid study residence permit can work part-time without a separate work permit, but only under an individual part-time employment contract. Under the latest IGI guidance, the limit is up to 6 hours per day during studies. Older sources, including the EU immigration portal, still mention 4 hours per day, so confirm the current limit with ASE’s international office or the Immigration Inspectorate before signing any contract. It is useful pocket money, not a way to pay tuition.

After graduation, eligible graduates can apply for a stay extension of up to 9 months to look for a job and complete employment formalities. This is not automatic, and you need the relevant documents and approval. Graduates of a Romanian institution can also request to extend their stay for work with a full-time contract related to their field of study.

Romania Student Visa for ASE Students: What to Expect

Pakistani students need a D/SD long-stay visa, applied for at the Romanian Embassy once the Letter of Acceptance is issued, followed by a temporary residence permit after arrival — the visa itself is only the entry ticket.

Romania’s Immigration Inspectorate lists the core requirements: proof of acceptance, proof of at least one year’s tuition paid, proof of funds at or above the national minimum wage per month, and proof of accommodation. The consular fee is around €300 — confirm current amounts on the embassy site and eviza.mae.ro before paying.

Pros and Cons of Studying at ASE Bucharest

No university suits everyone, so here is the balanced picture.

What works well
  • Clear, published fees of €3,500 and €4,500 a year
  • Eighteen English-taught programmes across business and economics
  • A capital-city setting with an EU address
  • QS subject rankings that are moving up
What to plan for
  • Heavy paperwork: Board, IBCC and MOFA steps
  • Housing is not guaranteed for self-funded students
  • Business rankings sit in the 501–550 band, not the top tier
  • Daily life is easier if you learn some Romanian

Is Romania itself the right destination? We cover that country-level question separately.

Either way, the strongest applicants are rarely the ones with the highest grades — they’re the ones whose file is complete, consistent and early.

Pro tip 3

Work backwards from the opening date. Count the weeks needed for Board verification, IBCC attestation, the MOFA apostille, upload, the Ministry’s letter and the visa, then add a buffer. Paperwork is the part of the process you fully control.

Final Thoughts
