Romania
from €7,000 a yearRomania is where your money goes furthest. Georgia
$8,000 a yearTbilisi State Medical University’s English MD is listed at $8,000 a year, but its separate American MD programme is listed at $13,500, so apply to the right one. Georgia is not in the EU, so ask where graduates actually train and work before you commit.
Bulgaria
€9,950 a yearSofia’s 2026 fee is paid in two equal instalments, and students who miss a deadline cannot attend classes, so save those dates early.
Poland
€15,100 a yearLodz states €15,100 for year one and €14,900 for years two to six, with no scholarships on its English programme. Lublin lists $8,550 per semester for 2026/27, plus a 100 PLN application fee.
Italy
€150–€4,000 at public universitiesPublic universities such as Pavia, Bologna, Sapienza, Milan and Padua teach medicine in English over six years, with income-based tuition of roughly €150 to €4,000 a year. Entry runs through the IMAT, and non-EU applicants compete for a smaller pool of seats, so a low fee does not mean easy admission.
Private universities skip the IMAT and run their own tests, but charge far more: about €18,000 at Cattolica, €20,690 at San Raffaele and €21,000 at UniCamillus for 2026/27. Confirm dates, seats and fees on Universitaly and with each university.
Also worth asking about: Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia, Lithuania and Albania teach medicine in English too. They are not part of the ranking above, so ask each university for its current fees.

Which European Country Has the Best Medical Schools?
The cheapest country and the best-ranked country are not the same. In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 for Medicine, the United Kingdom has the strongest medical schools in Europe, followed by Sweden’s Karolinska Institutet.
Oxford leads Europe at 2nd in the world, followed by Cambridge (5th), UCL (6th), Imperial College London (7th) and Karolinska Institutet (10th).
These are QS Medicine 2026 world ranks. QS weighs research output and reputation heavily, so a high rank shows prestige, not how easy admission is.
United Kingdom
QS Medicine 2nd to 7thOxford, Cambridge, UCL and Imperial hold four of Europe’s top five places. Entry is demanding: Oxford and Imperial both ask for A*AA at A level, and international fees are far higher than Romania’s. Check each university’s own fee page.
Sweden
QS Medicine 10thKarolinska is the highest-ranked school in the EU for medicine in QS 2026, but its medical programme is taught entirely in Swedish and there is no English-language medical degree. If Sweden is on your list, read our guide to study in Sweden before you plan around it.
Germany is one to watch too: QS names Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin the most improved university in Medicine this year. Check the language of instruction first.
Romania
from €7,000 a yearRomania pairs established medical schools with low fees. Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, a public university dating back to 1869, sits in the 801–1000 band of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, and Sibiu lists English-taught medicine at €7,000 a year. As an EU member, Romania also offers a six-year medical degree covered by EU rules on recognising doctors’ qualifications.
Budget first? Start with Romania and Georgia. Ranking first? Look at the UK, and be ready for top grades and a much bigger bill. Either way, choose a government-recognised university and read the recognition section below.

Hidden Costs of Studying Medicine in Europe
Before you pay a single deposit, count the extras that never show up in the headline fee. Application fees come first: Oradea charges €250 per programme plus a €25 platform fee, Galați’s is around €250, Sibiu’s file fee is 800 RON for Medicine and Lublin’s is 100 PLN. They are normally non-refundable.
Advance tuition is the next surprise. Oradea needs nine months of tuition paid in advance, and Galați can ask for the full first-year fee to confirm your seat, so keep that cash ready.
Some universities also run their own language tests, either an English test or an interview, and Carol Davila’s English test is around €500 for non-EU applicants. In Italy, remember the IMAT fee as well, on top of tuition.
Last comes living costs. Rent, food, transport and insurance vary a lot, and a smaller university town usually costs less than a capital, so compare cities as well as countries.

Is an MBBS From Europe Valid in Pakistan?
Every parent asks this, so check it before you pay a deposit. Pakistani doctors who graduate abroad must be recognised by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and generally need to meet its licensing requirements before they can practise. Rules change, so read the council’s current notices for the exact steps. Choose a government-recognised university with a full six-year English medicine programme, and be careful with anyone who promises “no exam” or a guaranteed visa.
06 · Europe vs ChinaMBBS in Europe or MBBS in China: Which Is Cheaper?
Many Pakistani students compare both. China is often competitive on tuition, but the two differ in language, climate, recognition and where graduates can train afterwards. Read our guide to MBBS in China, then compare total cost and your career plan, not just the yearly fee.

Final Thoughts
If your only goal is the lowest fee, Romania wins, with Sibiu and Galați leading the list at €7,000 a year. Georgia is a close alternative, Bulgaria sits in the middle, and Poland is the most expensive of the countries compared. Italy can be cheaper still at public universities, but only for students who win a seat in the IMAT. If you care more about rank than price, the UK leads the QS 2026 Medicine table in Europe, but those places need top grades and a much bigger budget. Pick the university first, then the country, and never pay a deposit until you have the fee in writing.
If you want an honest second opinion on fees, admission and visa steps, speak with professional study abroad consultants who will review your marks and budget properly. Fees shown are 2026/27 figures and can change, so confirm every amount with the university before you apply.
